The Computer Centre is responsible for the management and security of the computers and IT system of the Institute as well as the provision of IT related training for the trainees and staff to ensure maximum and efficient use of the computer facilities. The Computer Centre provides direct assistance on a day-to-day basis to all Divisions and Units in the Institute, as well as other agencies organising activities at IDEP (e.g. African Governance Institute (AGI), UNDSS, etc…).

The intensification of efforts at securing development, at the national and sub-regional levels, and the desire to sustain growth and make it more equitable in a context of a system of governance that is underpinned by the electoral pluralism have generated a considerable increase in demand for IDEP’s advisory services. These demands come from governments, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), other regional organisations, and a number of international agencies.
The IDEP headquarters being home to a significant portion of its training and capacity development activities, the Interpretation, translation and conference services unit plays a central role in ensuring that all programmes held at the Institute run smoothly. As a result of the space and the technical capabilities of our conference facilities, national, sub-regional and regional organizations and institutions occasionally use the facilities for various other activities.
The Support Project for the Africa - EU Partnership on Migration, Mobility and Employment (MME) was launched by the European Commission (EC) and the African Union Commission (AUC) to foster the Africa - EU Migration Mobility and Employment Partnership (‘MME partnership’). The project provides an open framework for consultations on a flexible thematic and geographic basis, thereby strengthening the leadership of the key stakeholders and facilitating the exchange of information and good practices.
The IDEP Development Seminar (IDS) Series is another forum where researchers and policy makers can engage in mutual learning and knowledge exchange for the betterment of the African continent. Each seminar lasts (3) hours that includes a general debate on various perspectives. Presentations are made by invited guests who are established senior scholar, policy researchers, policy analysts, and development practitioners with competence in the field being discussed.
The advanced policy research programme carried out at the Institute is inspired by and anchored on the African development agenda encapsulated in the work that the African Union symbolises and the varied needs of African governments as dictated by the differing circumstances of Member States. The nature of research conducted by IDEP research avoids a one-size-fits all generalisation and, at the same time, seeks to be relevant to and serve both continental and more localised needs.
IDEP has an existing reputation for the agenda-setting and innovative policy research which it undertook or facilitated on various aspects of the development challenges facing the countries of Africa during the 1960s into the 1970s. In the course of the 1980s and 1990s, in the context of the economic crises confronting African countries, the Institute devoted the bulk of its attention to undertaking advisory services as requested by African governments and expanding its capacity development and training activities.
