Mineral Policy and Contract Negotiations for Parliamentarians and Civil Society Members

The overarching objective of the course is to provide African Parliamentarians and the Civil Society Members currently engaged in the management, oversight, research, training and advocacy in the extractive industries value chain in West Africa, with the knowledge /Skills/capacities they need to effectively play their role and be suitably or better equipped to design and manage mining policy for the development of their countries, sub-regions and the continent.

Macro-Economic Modelling for Development Planners

This course aims to develop participants understanding and use of different models in the analysis of national economies and its sectors. The goal is to enable participants learn about how economic models are built and to use models to enquire and answer questions regarding how shocks affect the economy.  Topics will typically include relevant economic theory, development of models and the interpretation of results.

Industrial Policy in Africa

The overarching objective of the course is to strengthen the capacity of the relevant officials of African countries to design, implement, monitor and evaluate the efficacy of appropriate industrial policies fit for the task of contributing to the structural transformation of the economies of the continent.

Migration Policy for Regional Economic Communities (RECs)

This course aims to guide senior policymakers in Regional Economic Communities on the formulation of migration policies that will enhance regional integration and actively contribute to the implementation of countries' development strategies. It will provide policymakers with the required knowledge and the appropriate tools to develop migration policies at the intra-regional and inter-regional levels.

IDEP Welcomes Its First 2013 Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem Fellow

Dakar. Senegal 4 June, 2013 (IDEP) - On 3rd June 2013, IDEP welcomed Dr. Dumsile Dlamini the first laureate for 2013 of its Visiting Fellowship Programme for Policy Researchers, also known as “IDEP Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem Fellowships”. Since 1999, Dr Dlamini, a national of Swaziland, has been a full time lecturer in the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Swaziland. She obtained her PhD in Economics from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2011 with a specialization in Development Economics and Monetary Economics.

Africa Needs Skills and Data to Better Evaluate, Monitor and Post-evaluate Development Projects and Programmes

Dakar, Senegal, 18 June 2013 (IDEP) - There exist significant challenges in many development projects and programmes implemented in Africa, irrespective of the sector, from the design to the operational stages.Monitoring and evaluation is cited as a major weakness in the management of projects and programmes in Africa. Measurable objectives, indicators, methods for the measurement of benefits and the determination of costs, funding sources are examples of factors crucial in evaluating a project or a programme that are often lacking in many African countries.

IDEP’s Monthly Development Seminar Addresses Migration and Development in West Africa

Dakar, Senegal, 14 June 2013 (IDEP) – The 3rd IDEP’s Monthly Development Seminar for 2013 held on 6th June at IDEP Headquarters focused on the sensitive issue of migration within West Africa and its impact on the region’s development. It was addressed by Ndioro Ndiaye, former Deputy Director-General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and former Minister for Women's, Children's and Family Affairs of the Republic of Senegal.
