IDEP Governance

The day-to-day work of IDEP is overseen by a 12-member Governing Council which is chaired, by the Executive Secretary of the UNECA/Under Secretary-General of the UN. The remaining 11 members are ministerial representatives of Member States drawn on the basis of two members per sub-region of Africa.

IDEP in the ECA

From the time it was created, IDEP has maintained an integral relationship with the UN system both generally and with the UNECA in particular. This should not be surprising because, in part, it grew out of the effort of the UN to respond to an expressed need from its African Member States – much in the same way as it responded to the needs of its Member States from Latin America and the Caribbean by enabling the creation of a similar institutional facility for them by the same resolution of the General Assembly that established IDEP.

Deeper Regional Integration Agenda in Africa

The Joint IDEP/MEFMI course on deeper regional integration is therefore intended to impart participants with knowledge in implementing deeper integration processes, including the related challenges on prevailing disparities in policies, regulations, political commitment, limited intra-regional linkages and infrastructure bottlenecks. The course will facilitate interactive engagement and brainstorming on adjustment requirements (such as services liberalization and regulatory harmonization, among others) and policy options for deeper regional integration.

Mission & Mandate

Over the years since its establishment, IDEP has primarily functioned within its overarching mandate of accompanying African governments in their training and capacity development efforts in the fields of economic management and planning. To this end, it works closely with the ministries of finance, economic development and planning of its African Member-States to assess their needs and develop general, specialized, and tailor-made courses for their mid-career and senior officials. It also works with various line ministries concerned with the socio-economic development of Africa.

Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop on Gender-Responsive Economic Policy Management

The major goal of this Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop is to create a large pool of experts in the area of gender-responsive economic policy management. This pool of experts will be equipped to act as trainers for the two-week course on gender-responsive economic policy management organized for middle and senior African policymakers and which takes place on an annual basis at IDEP’s headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. Successful applicants may also be considered to be included in IDEP’s roster of gender experts. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: Thursday 19th September 2013.
