Better coordination, key to secure electricity for all in 2030 - ECA

33rd Session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE), ECA Office for North Africa

The ECA Office for North Africa will hold, on 30 October – 2 November in Tunis (Tunisia) its 33rd Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE).

Every year, delegates from seven countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Sudan and Tunisia) attend the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts to examine and discuss the economic and social development context in North Africa and the Office’s strategic orientations, short and medium-term actions plans and programme of work.

The Expert Group Meeting “Trade Facilitation in North Africa for Enhanced Regional Economic Integration: Challenges, Opportunities and the Way Forward” will provide participants with an opportunity to discuss how countries can improve their trade performance within North Africa and globally thanks to trade facilitation reforms.

Quality of institutions and structural transformation: distortions and resource allocation in North Africa

The ECA Office for North Africa will hold on 26-27 September 2018 in Rabat (Morocco) an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on "Quality of institutions and structural transformation:distortions and resource allocation in North Africa”, with the participation of governance experts from member States and international institutions.

Sub-regional meeting on SDG implementation in North African countries

This meeting aims to assess the progress, challenges, good practices and lessons learned related to SDG implementation in North Africa.

Participants will discuss the report on SDG implementation in Maghreb countries produced by ECA Office for North Africa. They will also further their discussions on various aspects of SDG implementation such as civil society and private sector participation, SDG inclusion in public policies, SDG monitoring, budgeting and resource-mobilization mechanisms.

UN and Development Partners Coordinate Actions for SDG Implementation in North Africa

Rabat, March 2, 2018 (ECA): Twenty-four UN organizations, international and funding institutions operating in North Africa agreed on a draft, joint road map to follow-up and support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the region.

Participants at the annual meeting of the Sub Regional Coordination Mechanism for North Africa on 1-2 March shared their experiences of the various challenges related to SDG implementation in the region and agreed on the need to improve coordination and seize opportunities for synergies between their actions.
