CFTA can play a role in reducing unemployment of youth and women - Vera Songwe

Rabat, 4 October 2017 (ECA) – The 32nd Session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE), opened in Rabat this week on the theme, “Youth employment and sustainable development”. Organized by the ECA Office in North Africa, the meeting attracted regional member states and high-level representatives, including the Arab Maghreb Union Secretary-General, Taïeb Baccouche, the Moroccan Minister of Employment and Professional Integration, Mohamed Yatim and the ECA Executive Secretary, Vera Songwe.

Trade between Africa & Arab World mutually beneficial for member countries (Hamdok)

Cairo, 24 August 2017 (ECA) – Enhanced trade flows between Africa and the Arab World could significantly elevate their share of the global market, said ECA Deputy Executive Secretary and Chief Economist Abdalla Hamdok this morning in Cairo at the 100th session of the League of Arab States Economic and Social Council.

African experts hone their knowledge of agricultural statistics

Rabat, 22 August 2017 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa launched today, in partnership with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the High Commission for Planning (HCP, Morocco) a training workshop on food balance in agricultural statistics. 

ECA’s African Centre for Statistics will carry out this workshop on 22-25 August in Rabat (Morocco) in favor of experts and trainers from ten francophone African countries (Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Chad and Togo).

32nd Session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE)

The Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE) is the statutory decision-making body of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Office for North Africa (ECA-NA). The ICE is in charge of supervising the office activities and meets annually to review the ECA-NA activity report, short and medium term action plans, program of work and strategic orientations.

Expert Group Meeting

The overall objective of the meeting is to carry out a deeper analysis of youth employment and sustainable development as a follow up to the study on “Being Young in the Maghreb” published by the North Africa Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA-NA) in 2013. This shall be done by highlighting the major challenges that youth face in finding employment opportunities.
