As we work towards the AfCFTA, we must ensure that there is less transboundary corruption within Africa (Vera Songwe)

Nouakchott, 28 June 2018 (ECA) – In a speech to the 31st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), ECA’s Executive Secretary Vera Songwe warned today in Nouakchott (Mauritania) against the impact of corruption on Africa’s development.

High-level policy dialogue on development in Africa set for Cairo

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 25 June, 2018 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Egypt’s Institute of National Planning will next month host a High-Level Policy Dialogue on development in Africa.

The high-level policy dialogue will be held from 10-12 July in Cairo, Egypt.

Mr. Sylvain Boko, Head of the Development Planning and Statistics Cluster in the ECA’s Capacity Development Division (CDD), says the dialogue will held under the theme; Financing the SDGs in Africa: Strategies for Planning and Resource Mobilization.

Industrialization through trade in North Africa in the context of the Continental Free Trade Area and Mega Trade Agreements

Structural transformation in North African countries requires the significant development of North Africa’s industrial sector in an adverse global context which restricts the emergence of newly industrialized countries. To face this challenge, North African countries must design and implement coherent and proactive industrial policies that would be aligned with national development plans in order to capitalize on the region’s synergies.

ECA, Mauritania strengthen partnership around SCAPP strategy and PPPs

Addis Ababa, le 15 May 2018 (ECA) – In a meeting held on the margins of the 51st Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, ECA Executive Secretary Vera Songwe and Mauritanian Minister of Economy of Finance Moctar Ould Djay agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several fields, including technical assistance.
