Addis Ababa, le 15 May 2018 (ECA) – In a meeting held on the margins of the 51st Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, ECA Executive Secretary Vera Songwe and Mauritanian Minister of Economy of Finance Moctar Ould Djay agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several fields, including technical assistance.
Ould Djay thanked Songwe for ECA’s work in support to the Mauritanian strategy for accelerated growth and shared prosperity (SCAPP), requesting that the project be expanded to include the strengthening of national implementation and follow-up capacities.
Ould Djay and Ms Songwe agreed to make Mauritania’s success stories better know, especially in areas such as the diversification of energy resources. New ECA-Mauritania projects will also include the building of an efficient Public Private Partnership approach to increase resource mobilization and private sector involvement in investments.
Lilia Hachem Naas, Director of the ECA office for North Africa, Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouh, Technical advisor in charge of private sector development and Fall Khayar, Programming director at the Mauritanian Ministry of Economy and Finance also took part in this meeting.
ECA’s 51st Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (COM2018) took place on 11-15 May 2018 under the theme: “The African Continental Free Trade Area: creating fiscal space for jobs and economic diversification”. During one of the events, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania thanked ECA for its support in strengthening their national statistics and called for the ongoing projects to be extended to social statistics.
