Regional integration: African Directors of Statistics to meet in Morocco in 2019

Marrakesh, 21 July 2017 - In a meeting held on 20 July 2017 in Marrakech, under the joint chairmanship of Morocco’s High Commissioner for Planning Ahmed Lahlimi and ECA’s Deputy Executive Secretary for Knowledge Delivery Giovannie Biha, Directors general and representatives of some 40 African national Statistics institutes called on the Economic Commission for Africa and the High Commission for planning to organize a regional conference on the role of statistics in support to regional integration in Africa. This event is to take place in Morocco in 2019.

Regional integration: African Statistics Directors meet at World Statistics Congress

Marrakesh, 13 July 2017 (ECA) - The UN Economic Commission for Africa and the Kingdom of Morocco High Commission for Planning (HCP) will hold a regional conference on the role of statistics in Africa’s regional integration Thursday 20 July in Marrakech, in the context of the 61st World Statistics Congress (ISI2017).

Mauritania collaborates with ECA and Morocco for better national account accuracy

Rabat, 12 June 2017 (ECA) –A delegation from the Mauritanian national statistics office (Office National de la Statistique, ONS) initiated today a field trip to its Moroccan equivalent, the High Commission for Planning. This ECA-backed visit will enable Mauritanian and Moroccan statisticians to exchange their experiences in data collection and processing.

North African Development Forum & International colloquium of Rabat

The ECA Office for North Africa will organize, from 21 to 22 November 2017, the 7th edition of  the North Africa Development Forum (NADF) and from 23 to 25 November 2017 the 11th edition of the Rabat International Colloquium. Both the Forum and the Colloquium will be held in partnership with several UN agencies, the WTO Chair of the Mohammed V University, the University of Toulon and the African Trade Policy Center. Both events will contribute to existing exchanges on links and interactions between "governance, structural transformation and sustainable and inclusive development ".

African Social Development Index (ASDI) - North Africa Report

Africa’s positive economic growth over the past two decades has shown resilience in the wake of the international crisis of 2008. However, this positive performance has not yet translated its economic gains into meaningful social development. Rising incomes have often gone hand in hand with rising inequality – undermining the efforts made by many countries to reduce poverty, and fuelling social and economic instability in the region.

Nouakchott: ECA takes part in SDGs follow-up in the Maghreb

Nouakchott, 10 April 2017 (ECA) - A delegation from the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA, Office for North Africa) embarked on a one week visit to Mauritania, to meet high level officials from the Ministries of Economy and Finance, Energy and Agriculture, Environment and Sustainable Development, as well as the National Statistical Office and the National Agency for the Promotion of Youth Employment.

Human exclusion: Moroccan experts take ownership of African Social Development Index

Rabat, 21 February (ECA): The Social Development Policy Division (SDPD) of the UN Economic Commission for Africa is holding on 21-23 February 2017 in Rabat (Morocco), a capacity development workshop on the application and use of the African Social Development Index (ASDI) for policy formulation, with the participation of experts from the Moroccan statistics institute, the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
