Rabat, 22 August 2017 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa launched today, in partnership with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the High Commission for Planning (HCP, Morocco) a training workshop on food balance in agricultural statistics.
ECA’s African Centre for Statistics will carry out this workshop on 22-25 August in Rabat (Morocco) in favor of experts and trainers from ten francophone African countries (Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Senegal, Chad and Togo).
This training is taking place within the framework of the Global strategy to improve agricultural and rural statistics and the Africa action plan established by ECA, AfDB and FAO for its implementation. It aims to improve the availability and quality of national and international statistics in the fields of food and agriculture, to facilitate decision-making in these fields.
This workshop aims to provide participants with the knowledge and expertise needed to carry out detailedagricultural surveys and censuses by optimizing the use of technologies for the production of agricultural statistics (digital tablets, teledetection, geographic information systems, etc.).
In order to help enhance African national statistical systems’ ability to produce high quality agricultural statistics, this training will be designed to enable participants to share their newly acquired knowledge within their respective organizations.
This training is part of a series of workshops carried out in the five sub-regions of Africa. The next training will be taking place on 19-22 September in Tunis (Tunisia) with the aim of boosting experts’ ability to extract agricultural statistical data from administrative sources.
