Senegalese Minister calls for scientific integration in Africa

Dakar, Senegal, 28 November 2017 (ECA) – The fourth Senior Experts Dialogue on Science, Technology and the African Transformation Agenda opened in Dakar Tuesday with Senegal’s Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Mary Teuw Niane, calling on Africa to pull its resources together to produce a critical mass of scientists and researchers to help find solutions to problems besetting the continent.

New Fringe Pastoralism: Confict and Insecurity and Development in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel

This report focuses on the emergence of new fringe activities that have transformed the relationship involving pastoralism, the State and the traditional national and transnational mobility of pastoralists. The phenomenon is multifaceted in nature and has been embraced by only a minority of pastoralists, but it has had far-reaching impacts that transcend location. New fringe pastoralism, therefore, has national, regional and global aspects related to pastoralists’ relations with transnational, networked communities of interest.

Niger marks Africa Statistics Day with call for Africa to scale-up production of quality data

Niamey, Niger, 20 November 2017 (ECA) - The government of Niger on Saturday joined other countries on the continent in marking the 27th Africa Statistics Day with officials urging the continent to scale-up efforts to produce quality data that will guide policy formulation processes and improve the lives of ordinary people. 

The event was organized in collaboration with the Sub-Regional Office for West Africa of the Economic Commission for Africa (SRO/WA-ECA).
