Africa needs shared strategic vision to promote structural transformation, says ECA’s Dimitri Sanga

Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, 16 November 2017 – Africa needs a shared strategic vision if its economies are to be transformed to meet the needs of its population, says Dimitri Sanga, the Director of the West African Regional Office of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

Speaking Thursday at a workshop to launch activities to restore the methodological Guide to manage Project Cycles (GPC) in Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Sanga said he was convinced that in the absence of that shared vision, not much progress would be made towards structural transformation on the continent.

West African journalists form network to advance issues concerning region

Dakar, 28 September 2017 (ECA) – Thirty West African journalists, specializing in economic, social and environmental development issues, on Thursday formed a network that will help them cover their beats well through sharing information and making sure there’s better visibility of issues concerning their region in the media.

ECA, UN agencies & partners strategise on strengthening relations and coordination efforts in West Africa

Dakar, 27 September 2017 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), through its Sub-Regional Office for West Africa, is today hosting the Annual Meeting of the Sub-Regional Coordination Mechanism (SRCM) together with other UN agencies and Regional Economic Communities.

The meeting is focusing on the coordination of their support to their respective communities, in particular Member States.

Peace and security crucial for Africa’s development says ECA’s Biha

ECA deputy Executive Secretary Biha to attend policy dialogue on conflict and development in Niamey

Niamey, Niger, 11 September 2017 (ECA) - The Deputy Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, Giovanie Biha, arrived in Niger today for a three-day visit.

During her visit, Ms. Biha will meet with top government officials to discuss matters of common interest.

The Deputy Executive Secretary will take advantage of her presence in Niamey and participate in the High-Level Policy Dialogue on Conflict and Development in the Sahel Region, which the ECA and the Government of Niger are co-organising. The dialogue takes place from September 13 to 14, 2017.

Launch of the 2016 Country Profile for Ghana: Improving Energy Supply to Drive Growth in the Country

Accra, Ghana, 21 August 2017 (ECA) – the Ghanaian Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa’s (ECA) Sub-Regional Office for West Africa, launched the 2016 Country Profile for Ghana, on this day, in Accra.

The purpose of this initiative is to provide analyses and recommendations specific to Ghana following its drive towards structural transformation that will foster significant growth and sustainable social development, including its performance in areas such as regional integration and the fight against social exclusion.
