The ECA and Niger in partnership to promote the use of ICTs in West Africa

Niamey, Niger, 02 May 2017 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa’s Sub-Regional Office for West Africa and the National Assembly of Niger have established a partnership framework to organize a Forum on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region.

Burkina Faso to host 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts for West Africa

Niamey, Niger, 16 April 2017 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa’s Sub-Regional Office for West Africa and the Government of Burkina Faso will in May co-host the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE) for West Africa in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The ICE would be held from May 18-19 under the theme; “Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 in West Africa: The role of development planning”.

Analyses and recommendations for the structural transformation of West African countries

Dakar (Senegal), 4 April 2017 (ECA) – The Economic Commission for Africa proceeded with the launching of the second generation of ECA Country Profiles on March 25 in Dakar.

Among the 21 reports presented, four are from West Africa: Cabo Verde, the Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria.

The objective of this initiative is to provide analyses and specific recommendations for Member States in order to support structural transformation which in turn promotes sustained growth and sustainable social development, as well as regional integration or combating exclusion.

Working Documents

 The Intergovernmental Committee of Experts is a body set up by the General Assembly of the United Nations. In West Africa, it gets together every year to debate economic and social performances, on the basis of working documents prepared by the Sub-Regional Office for West Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA/SRO-WA). The ECA Sub-Regional Office for West Africa, based in Niamey, Niger, covers the fifteen member countries of the ECOWAS.
