ECA discusses with Journalists the enormous potential offered by the AfCFTA

Monrovia, Liberia, 21 February (ECA) - The success of the African Continental Free Trade area will depend on a range of policies to address trade, investment and industrialization barriers and the media will play a vital role to make it happen. 

It is in this context that UN Economic Commission for Africa organized a three-day meeting with the Network of Economic Journalists for West Africa to make a case for AfCFTA and discuss with journalists a wide range of socio-economic development benefits deriving from its implementation.

The Liberia Country Profile launched in Monrovia: The development of agribusiness as a lever for the structural transformation of the country's economy

Monrovia, Liberia, February 8, 2019 – The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning of Liberia, in collaboration with the West Africa Sub-Regional Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), proceeded on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Monrovia, to disseminate Liberia's Country Profile for 2017.

The purpose of this initiative is to provide a platform for policy dialogue to disseminate Liberia-specific policy analyses and recommendations that promote economic transformation for sustained growth and sustainable social development.

ECA works with Côte d'Ivoire in supporting Agenda 2063 implementantion

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, January 25, 2019 (ECA) – On January 25 in Abidjan, the Government of Côte d'Ivoire and the African Union Commission, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), organised a high-level workshop on the implementation of the African Union's Agenda 2063.

The workshop, which was preceded by a Meeting of Experts, is part of the mission of the President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Mr. Alassane Ouattara, who was designated by his African peers as the Champion for the implementation and monitoring of Agenda 2063.

Restitution of project management guide: ECA’s contribution to the effective implementation of the National Development Plan in Cote d’Ivoire

Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), December 13, 2018 - The Ivorian Government, through the Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD) and the West African Sub regional Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), organized this Thursday a workshop on the restitution of the methodological guide for managing the project cycle of Côte d'Ivoire.

This project, which is part of ECA’s fundamental mission to assist African countries, aims to support the revival of the development planning process in Côte d'Ivoire.

ECA leads UN efforts for a stable and prosperous Sahel region

Niamey, Niger, August 31st, 2018 (ECA) - The United Nations is revamping its action plan to address the root causes of the complex crisis in Africa’s Sahel region, in particular outlining a development vision for the region through a prospective socio-economic study by its agencies led by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).

The study, which focuses on 10 countries and has the backing of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres who told a conference in February that it was possible to achieve peace, stability and prosperity in the Sahel, began in April this year.
