Five countries revise lessons in agro statistics

Yaounde, 28 July 2015 (ECA) – The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is actively disseminating the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics across five more African countries. In a strategic move, the Commission is currently running a training workshop in Yaounde, Cameroon, with the objective of availing statisticians with the practical skills and tools necessary for conducting surveys in agriculture, in order to help leaders formulate well-informed agricultural policies.

ECA praised for developing unique social index

Yaounde, 25 June 2015 (ECA) – Following the rolling out exercise for Central and Francophone East Africa of the newly developed African Social Development Index (ASDI) experts of National Statistics Offices and officials from planning ministries of both sub-regions, have expressed their enthusiasm to work hand-in glove with ECA to make it a veritable tool for boosting social policies for Africa's transformation.

Training Workshop on the African Social Development Index

During the workshop, senior statisticians and policy planners from all francophone countries in Central and East Africa will be trained on the use and application of the newly introduced African Social Development Index (ASDI) - a tool for informing and mapping social policies.

The tool, a first of its kind, developed by ECA following a request from African States, measures the depth of human exclusion in key areas of development: health, education, employment, income and survival.

Central Africa’s resolve on free movement is laudable – Says Carlos Lopes

Yaounde, 19 May 2015 (ECA) – The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has hailed the decision by leaders of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) to lift visa-based restrictions on free movement of citizens of member States across the Community with immediate effect, in compliance with existing agreements.

Harmonisation of economic communities in Central Africa: experts re-engage

Yaounde, 21 April 2015 (ECA) – Experts in economic affairs and representatives of institutions working toward regional integration in Central Africa have begun meeting in Yaounde, Cameroon to review and validate draft texts relating to five of the of the 12 priority areas of action for the harmonisation of the work of the sub-region’s economic communities.
