Conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo: Causes, impact and implications for the Great Lakes region

The Democratic Republic of Congo is recovering from conflicts, posting substantial improvement in overall macroeconomic performance since the cessation of the war, on the back of robust copper and cobalt exports. Inflation has also declined remarkably and it has stabilized at single-digit levels thanks in major part to restrictive fiscal policy achieved through expenditure compression.

Launch of Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions

This technical meeting to launch RINAC is the fruit of a study conducted by the ECA based on recommendations by a group of experts of the sub-region meeting in Yaoundé-Cameroon in October 2010 and, after workshop to validate a study to way the options for such a network validation of the study held in Libreville in November 2012.

The Network will serve as a tool for building capacity and for sharing knowledge, information and best practices common to Central African countries in order to better combat corruption in the sub-region.

High Level Policy Dialogue on Conflict and Development in Africa

The Capacity Development Division (CDD) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) will be hosting a High Level Policy Dialogue on Conflict and Development in Africa, in Accra, Ghana from 2 -3 October 2015.  This follows three landmark regional studies on the costs and consequences of conflict on development in the Sahel, Great Lakes and the Horn of Africa region produced by UNECA at the request of the African Union.
