AMDC hosts panel session on stemming illicit financial flows in Mining Indaba

Addis Ababa, 25 January 2017 (ECA) – The African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) will host a panel session during the Ministerial Session of Mining Indaba under the auspices of the African Union Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The discussion will focus on domestic resource mobilization through strengthening partnerships to stem the illicit financial flows from the mineral sector in the region.

AMDC scales up efforts in value creation in mining

Addis Ababa, 26 January 2017 (ECA) – The African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), in partnership with the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), will host a panel discussion on concrete opportunities in value creation within upstream linkages in the mining sector in Africa.

The special information session, “Value creation and local development: linkages, investment and diversification in African mining,” will focus on development programmes for suppliers.

Optimizing Domestic Revenue Mobilization and Value Addition of Africa’s Minerals

The present report was prepared at the request of the African Union Heads of State and Government. It examines the management of Africa’s mineral resources, with a particular focus on optimizing revenue mobilization through the harmonization of fiscal regimes, in particular royalties, across the continent. The report presents different options for harmonization and their implications for supporting domestic revenue mobilization and regional value chains.

Congo strengthens mining contracts for development

Brazzaville, Congo 07 December 2016 (ECA) – The Government of Congo, through its Ministry of Mines, and the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), will host a workshop on 8 to 10 December 2016 to launch a project aimed to increase the capacity of the country to negotiate the most optimal mining contracts.

Funded by the 9th Tranche of the United Nations Development Account, the project aims to provide technical assistance to key mining sector stakeholders to negotiate, implement and monitor its mining contracts more efficiently and effectively.

Kenya ramps up its Country Mining Vision process

Nairobi, Kenya, 27 November 2016 (ECA) – Leaders from different government ministries and members of the academia as well as the civil society met from 14 to 17 October 2016 to kick start the process of developing the customized Country Mining Vision for Kenya.

The retreat was held in the outskirts of the capital city to discuss a comprehensive approach on how to address the broad spectrum of the African Mining Vision (AMV)-related issues in relation to the developmental agenda of the minerals sector in Kenya.

Mining Indaba 2017

Mining Indaba is the world’s largest gathering stakeholders and partners in African mining. An average of 7,000 mining industry professionals from more than 100 countries and 2,300 companies are expected to attend the event with the intent to establish vital relationships to sustain their investment interests. More than 45 African and non-African government delegations are also expected.

Accra, Ghana, 27 September 2016 (ECA) – Participants of the Second Africa Oil Governance Summit unanimously recognized that the African Mining Vision could facilitate Africa’s accelerated development through value linkages and regional integration.

The annual Summit is a gathering of key players of Africa’s oil industry and it serves as platform to engage around the governance of the oil and gas resources to transition oil-producing countries onto an accelerated development trajectory that takes advantage of the continent’s position as the last oil frontier of the world.
