Marine mineral resources to benefit all including landlocked states

Kampala, Uganda, 11 May 2017 – Seabed mining experts from all over the world convened from 2 to 4 May 2017 in the capital of the landlocked state of Uganda to discuss opportunities and explore the potentials of marine mineral resources in contributing to the regional and global development goals.

Global seabed mining experts to discuss potentials of marine resources

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 24 April 2017 (ECA) – Global experts in seabed mining are gathering together in Kampala, Uganda from May 2 to 4 to discuss the potentials of marine resources in advancing the continental and global agenda in socio-economic development.

The experts composed of widely-respected scientists, researchers, academics, and government officials will be tackling challenges and opportunities on marine mineral resources development, and the protection and preservation of the marine environment from activities in the international seabed area.

African tax authorities equipped with tools to deal with transfer pricing issues

Dar es Salaam, 21 March 2017 (ECA) – The African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) together with the Minerals and Energy for Development Alliance (MEfDA) and the World Bank, has delivered the first of two regional workshops on transfer pricing in Africa’s mineral sector.

The first workshop was successfully held from 13-16 March 2017, and included senior decision makers from tax administration authorities, revenue agencies, and ministries of finance and mines.

Experts gathered to discuss a proactive African response to commodity price volatility

Addis Ababa, 02 March 2017 (ECA) – The African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) together with Tax Justice Network-Africa (TJN-A) will convene a colloquium addressing Africa’s response to the global collapse in commodity prices.

Experts will present and discuss mineral and economic policy issues with particular emphasis on the global and Africa-specific impact of the price fall, and what policy responses African countries have implemented in order to address the adverse effects of this crisis.

Capacity-building training in extractives welcomed in Equatorial Guinea

Addis Ababa, 07 March 2017 (ECA) – The African Mineral Development Centre (AMDC), in collaboration with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the Government of Equatorial Guinea, organized a four-day capacity-building training on contract negotiation and the structuring effects of the extractive sector on the economy from 15 to 18 February 2017 in Malabo.
