Launch of the African Land Policy Centre marks a step forward towards better governance of land

Eleven years since the establishment of the Land Policy Initiative, a ceremony was held in the presence of African Ministers and experts that launched the African Land Policy Centre (ALPC) in the margins of the second meeting of the AU Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment under the theme: “Enhancing environmental and agricultural transformation to achieve food and nutrition security in advancing Agenda 2063.”

Rwanda workshop to focus on mainstreaming land policy and governance into national developmental plan

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 4 September 2017 (ECA) – The Land Policy Initiative (LPI), in partnership with the government of Rwanda, will on September 5, 2017, conduct a day-long national validation workshop for more than 20 participants in Kigali on the pilot project to mainstream land policy and governance in the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP).

Madagascar to lay focus on land governance in its Agricultural Investment Plan

Antananarivo, Madagascar, 31 August 2017 - The AU-ECA-AfDB Land Policy Initiative (LPI) in partnership with the government of Madagascar organised a workshop on 31 August 2017 to validate the Country Report and Business Plan on Mainstreaming Land Governance in the National Agricultural Investment Plan of the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (NAIP/CAADP).

Pilot project to integrate land governance concerns in agriculture launched in DRC

Kinshasa, D.R. Congo, August 10, 2017 (ECA) - The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) was recently in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo where it launched the pilot project to mainstream land governance concerns in the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Program (CAADP).

The launch took place during an inception workshop organized by the LPI in partnership with the DRC government.

Final call for abstracts: 2017 Conference on land policy in Africa

“The Africa We Want: Achieving socioeconomic transformation through inclusive and equitable access to land by the youth” is the theme of the 2017 Conference on Land Policy in Africa that will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 14-17 November 2017 and hosted by the Land Policy Initiative, a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

A call for papers and posters is now open. Abstracts (800 words) addressing the conference themes and objectives will be received until 4 August, 2017.

Africa’s Land Commissions commit to recognizing and securing community land rights

Accra, Ghana, 20 July 2017 (ECA) – The regional workshop with African Land Commissions on securing community land rights ended in Accra, Ghana, Wednesday with participants committing to advancing policy, legal and regulatory reforms in their respective countries and ensure their effective implementation in order to recognize community land rights.
