Second land policy conference in Africa discusses youth role in land governance

Addis Ababa ,14 November 2017 (ECA) -Africa’s land policy conference opened in Addis Ababa Tuesday with a clarion call for governments to properly manage land for the benefit of its people, in particular ensuring youth and women have access to land.

The day started with participants attending various workshops to discuss varied topics, including land planning and governance, land certification system, technology application for agriculture, conflict management, access to land for women and youth and environment management.

Land governance key to Africa’s transformation, says Hamdok at opening of land policy conference

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, November 14, 2017 (ECA) -The Second Conference on Land Policy in Africa opened in Addis Ababa Tuesday with a call for the continent to properly manage its land resources for the benefit of its current and future generations.

In opening remarks to the conference, ECA Deputy Executive Secretary and Chief Economist, Mr. Abdalla Hamdok, said there was no doubt that good land governance was key to Africa’s transformation and central to livelihoods and sustainable development.

ECA, AfDB and AUC pledge more support for African countries at land conference

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, November 14, 2017 (ECA) – The 2nd biennial Conference on Land Policy in Africa opened in Addis Ababa Tuesday with the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) pledging to do more to support African governments to develop robust policies that will support Africa’s economic and social transformation through the optimum use of her land and natural resources.

Integrated implementation of UN and AU guidelines improves land tenure governance in Africa

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 8 November 2017 (ECA) –  The 6th Capitalization Meeting of the European Union-funded Land Governance Program opened in Addis Ababa Wednesday with project implementers meeting to address implementation challenges and advance their knowledge and skills.

The three-day meeting will allow participants to discuss land governance issues in Africa and related issues like the elimination of hunger, poverty, and the sustainable use of natural resources.

Ethiopian minister urges IGAD Member States to strengthen dialogue on land governance

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, November 8, 2017 (ECA) - A two-day Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) land dialogue opened in Addis Ababa Wednesday with Ethiopia’s State Minister for Natural Resources, Kaba Urgessa, urging IGAD member States to use the platform to share experiences and challenges related to effective land administration.
