Policy makers speak out on Africa's land blueprint

Addis Ababa, 14 November 2014 (ECA) -  Experts attending the inaugural Conference on Land Policy in Africa concurred that the African Union-led Guiding Principles on Large Scale Land Based Investments in Africa should serve as "the blueprint for improving land governance on the continent and be contextualized and operationalised in their respective countries."

Addis Ababa, 8 November 2014 - The inaugural Conference on Land Policy in Africa (CLPA) will be held from 11 to 14 November 2014, at the African Union Conference Center, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The CLPA 2014 is organized by the Land Policy Initiative (LPI), a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB), under the theme “The next decade of land policy in Africa: ensuring agricultural development and inclusive growth”.

Global experience critical to developing successful land governance systems in Africa

Beijing, 28 October 2014 (ECA) -  Experiences from Asia, Latin America and European countries 'in transition', which have some similarities in terms of land governance systems to Africa’s own systems, were extremely useful to Africa as the continent formed its agenda on land policy, and would continue to be critical to Africa’s success in developing frameworks, policies and tools to address land governance issues, said Ms. Joan Kagwanja, Chief of the Land Policy Initiative of the Economic Commission for Africa.

Monitoring and evaluation in land policy: harmonization a must

Addis Ababa, 21 October 2014 - The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) will organize an Experts’ Group Meeting (EGM) to lay the ground for piloting the LPI Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework. The EGM will serve as a platform for dialogue on strengthening the synergies between the LPI, the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Results Framework, and other relevant programmes. The meeting will be held on 23 and 24 October 2014, at the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
