Inception workshop on the study on “Effective land administration in Africa”

The Land Policy Initiative organizes a two-day inception meeting to ensure clear understanding of the mandate, methodology, and timelines of the study on“Effective land administration in Africa.” The overall objective of the study will be to guide the efforts of the African Union Member States in implementing national land policies through effective land services, and improved land governance systems. Participants in the meeting will include the consultants, representatives of Government agencies responsible for land administration, and land administration experts.

Advocate for land in Africa: networks and coalitions a must

Addis Ababa, 25 August 2014 (ECA) – The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) organized by the Land Policy Initiative (LPI) on 21 and 22 August 2014 to validate the Communication and Advocacy Strategy of the organization recommended, among others, that networks and coalitions be involved as partners in order to enhance land-related advocacy efforts.  This would involve identifying or further facilitating the creation of networks of media, civil society and farmers’ organizations at national, regional, and continental levels, to build support for land reforms in Africa.

Experts to validate the Communication and Advocacy Strategy for the Land Policy Initiative

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) will organize an Experts’ Group Meeting (EGM) to revise and validate the draft Communications and Advocacy Strategy of the organization. The meeting will be held on 21 and 22 August 2014, at the United Nations Conference Centre, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

LPI supports Southern Africa’s work plan on land policy

Lusaka, 9 July 2014 (ECA) - The Land Policy Initiative (LPI) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) agreed on the key elements of a work plan for supporting the mainstreaming of land policy and governance in the programmes of the regional organization. The two institutions also identified key elements of a formal agreement that would guide collaboration, technical and financial support, as well as resource mobilisation in the implementation of the work plan.

A monitoring and evaluation framework to support the African agenda on land

Addis Ababa, 7 July 2014 (ECA) – The Expert Group Meeting (EGM) organized by the Land Policy Initiative (LPI) from 30 June to 2 July to review for finalization the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework and an implementation plan for piloting the Framework recommended, among others, the establishment of a technical advisory group that would guide the process and exercise quality control. The meeting also recommended that an expert be appointed as the lead writer in crafting the final document, under LPI supervision.

ECA, FAO: setting up a milestone for Africa’s development

Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, 27 June 2014 (ECA) The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mr. Carlos Lopes, and the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Mr. Graziano da Silva, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that provides a framework for collaboration between the two institutions.
