IDEP offers courses for the benefit of African government officials in 2016

The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) organized a first round of seven short courses for mid-career and senior level African policymakers during the first semester of 2016.

Those courses are part of IDEP’s portfolio of traditional short courses (organized on a yearly basis) and addressed the following important topics for Africa’s development:

Launch of a joint two-year MPHIL degree programme in Industrial Policy


The fruitful partnership between The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) and The University of Johannesburg (UJ), which has seen the delivery of various short courses focusing on topics of relevance to Africa’s development, culminated in the launch of a joint two-year MPHIL degree programme in Industrial Policy. UJ hosted the official launch of the programme on Monday, 18 April 2016 at the University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH), on its Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus.

Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on gender-responsive economic policy management

Objectives

The major goal of this Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop is to create a large pool of experts in the area of gender-responsive economic policy management. This pool of experts will be equipped to act as trainers for the two-week course on gender-responsive economic policy management organized for middle and senior African policymakers and which takes place on an annual basis at IDEP’s headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. Successful applicants may also be considered to be included in IDEP’s roster of gender experts.

Social Policy for Development Planners

The overarching objective of the course is to contribute to the development of a critical mass of highly skilled middle and senior development officials and decision makers who have a strong social policy consciousness and orientation, and who will be suitably or better equipped to design and manage development plans in which social and economic policies and strategies are fully interfaced to deliver the kinds of transformative outcomes desired.

Mineral Policy and Contract Negotiations

The overarching objective of the course is to contribute to the development of a critical mass of highly skilled middle and senior policy officials and decision makers who will be suitably or better equipped to design and manage mining policy for the development of their countries, sub-regions and the continent. A robust mining policy must necessarily be built on a clear developmental vision;
