Statisticians attend population projections workshop in Dakar

Dakar, Senegal, 20 December 2016 (IDEP) - The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) recently hosted 16 statisticians from the national statistical offices of eight Francophone countries from West, Central and Eastern Africa in a workshop meant to hone their skills in population projections.

The regional workshop, which ran from November 28 to December 2, 2016, was organized by the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA) in partnership with ECA’s African Centre for Statistics (ACS) and IDEP.

Twenty African officials benefit from trade policy analysis course

Dakar, Senegal, December 20, 2016 (IDEP) – In its quest to help Africa deal with challenges it is facing regarding trade policy issues, the African Centre for Trade Policy (ATCP) of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA, recently trained officials from African Member States on how to formulate suitable evidence-based trade policies as countries seek to structurally transform their economies.

International Trade Negotiations

The overarching objective of the course is to contribute to the development of a critical mass of highly skilled middle and senior policy officials and decision makers who will be suitably or better equipped to design and manage trade policy for the development of their countries, sub-regions and the continent. More specifically, the course will provide training on trade negotiations, doing so on the basis primarily of the expressed interest of African governments to ensure that their international trade relations are fundamentally developmental.

Data Analysis For Development Planners

The overarching objective of the course is to contribute to the development of a critical mass of highly skilled middle and senior policy officials and decision makers who will be suitably or better equipped to collect and/or analyze data for the purpose of national, sub-regional, and regional development planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. More specifically, the course will provide training on different methods and types of data collection and analyses. The course content covers a range of both theoretical and practical issues in data collection and analyses.

IDEP trains policymakers in gender-responsive economic policy formulation

Dakar,  Senegal, December 15 (IDEP) - The African Institute for Economic Development  and  Planning  recently  organized  a  course  for  senior and mid-level  African  policymakers  to  equip  them  with  relevant tools and knowledge  on  how  to  mainstream  gender into socio-economic policies and national budgets.

ECA and NEPAD launch an investors’ guide for infrastructures in Africa

Dakar, 15 December 2016 (ECA) – International experts, ambassadors, high officials and entrepreneurs gathered today in Dakar for the launch of “16 infrastructure projects for African integration”.

This document is an investors’ guidebook produced by the Economic Commission for Africa and the NEPAD Agency at the request of President Macky Sall, Chairman of the NEPAD Heads of States and Government Orientation Committee; it examines the 16 projects selected at the Dakar Summit on Infrastructure (DFS), organized in June 2014 and covers the crucial issue of their financing.
