Government officials learn about mineral policy and contract negotiations at IDEP workshop

Dakar, Senegal, 12 August 2016 (IDEP) - In its efforts to support African countries to build their human resource capacities and promote socio-economic development, the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) recently organized a course for middle and senior level government officials and managers responsible for policy formulation and decision-making.

The course on Mineral Policy and Contract Negotiations was held from 11 to 22 July 2016 at the IDEP headquarters in Dakar, Senegal, catering for English and French-speaking African lawmakers.

ECA and UNITAR Offer Free e-Learning Course on Industrialization through Trade

10 August 2016, Geneva, Switzerland - Africa’s social development indicators reveal a paradox: high unemployment and poverty coexisting with robust growth. Industrialization and trade are two key instruments playing a major role in economic growth performance having the potential to structurally transform Africa economies.  The goal of trade-induced industrialization must also guide the conduct, negotiations and implementation of trade and investment agreements and arrangements.

e-Learning : Economic Report on Africa 2015: Industrialization through Trade

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and its training arm, the United Nations Institute of Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), have partnered with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to offer an e-learning course based on the ECA’s Economic Report for Africa 2015 (ERA 2015).

The course will provide participants from government, business, civil society and academia with a better understanding of how trade can serve as an instrument of accelerated industrialization and structural transformation in Africa.
