IDEP organizes a high-level dialogue on green industry in Africa

Dakar, 23-24 May 2017 (IDEP) – As part of IDEP’s policy dialogue series, a high-level roundtable on green industry, gathering Senegalese leaders, experts in industry, environment, energy, agriculture finance, will take place from 23rd to 24th May 2017 in Dakar, Senegal.Ambassadors, high-level officials, representatives from international organizations, embassies, academia and international experts will be participating.

Agriculture Policy in Africa

Objectives

The course aims at providing training on agricultural policy with a view to strengthening and/or renewing the knowledge and capacity of African policy makers, including senior managers, negotiators, advisors, planners and analysts, to meet the core challenges of growing the agricultural sector as a central engine of national economic development and social policy.

Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on gender-responsive economic policy management

Objectives

The major goal of this Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop is to create a large pool of experts in the area of gender-responsive economic policy management. This pool of experts will be equipped to act as trainers for the two-week course on gender-responsive economic policy management organized for middle and senior African policymakers and which takes place on an annual basis at IDEP’s headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. Successful applicants may also be considered to be included in IDEP’s roster of gender experts.

IDEP builds capacity of 25 African policymakers in the design of international trade policies

Dakar, Senegal, 4 May 2017 (IDEP) - The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) recently trained 25 officials from different African countries on how to design and manage dynamic trade policies for the development of their nations, sub-regions and the continent at large.

The 25 officials from 12 Anglophone and 13 Francophone African countries took part in IDEP’s third short course so far this year on International Trade Policy for National and Regional Development.

Macroeconomic Modelling For Development Planners

The goal is to enable participants learn about how economic models are built and to use models to enquire and answer questions regarding how shocks affect the economy. This course aims to develop participants understanding and use of different models in the analysis of national economies and its sectors. Topics will typically include relevant economic theory, development of models and the interpretation of results.

Statisticians benefit from population projections training

Dakar, Senegal, January 31, 2017 (IDEP) – The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) recently hosted a regional workshop on population projections benefiting 16 statisticians from national statistical offices of eight Francophone countries from West, Central and Eastern Africa.

The workshop was organized by the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) in partnership with ECA’s African Centre for Statistics (ACS) and IDEP.

IDEP leads dialogue on youth employment and the demographic dividend in Africa

Dakar, Senegal, 30 January 2017 (ECA) - The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), in collaboration with the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), recently organized a seminar seeking solutions to the unemployment challenge facing the youth in Africa.

Titled ‘Youth Employment in Africa: How to take advantage of the opportunity of the demographic dividend?’ the course was part of a training program being given by the institutions on population projections.
