Canadian Foreign Policy Journal Examines Canada, Africa and the Inclusive Trade Agenda

Carleton University has released the newest issue of CFPJ examining Canada, Africa and the inclusive trade agenda. The issue was prepared through a partnership between the African Trade Policy Centre and the Canadian Centre for Trace Policy and Law supported by a grant to the former by Global Affairs Canada.

Partnerships at the cornerstone of moving forward the AfCFTA agenda

Nairobi 24 Sept 2019 (ECA)Collaboration between Trademark East Africa (TMEA) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa resulted last week in a dinner roundtable to discuss how to make the African Continental Free Trade Area work for women and youth.

Speaking at the event, Andrew Mold, Acting Director praised the collaboration between ECA and TMEA, saying that such partnerships between ECA, TMEA, the African Union Commission, UNCTAD, and others are going to be fundamental in moving forward the regional integration agenda.

Blantyre, Malawi, 23 September 2019 – The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, in partnership with the Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Commission (AUC) held an AfCFTA Sensitization Workshop in Blantyre on Thursday 19 September. This workshop brought together approximately 120 participants from the private sector, civil society organizations, government and academia. The purpose of the workshop was to promote dialogue and develop a better understanding of the AfCFTA. In addition to securing consensus for Malawi to ratify the AfCFTA Agreement.

Democratic Republic of Congo conducts national consultation on the AfCFTA

Addis Ababa, September 17, 2019 (ECA) - By establishing a single market of 1.2 billion individuals representing $ 2.5 trillion of cumulative GDP, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is an important lever to increase the production capacity of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and unlock its commercial potential. It also offers the prospect of generating higher value-added processing opportunities for this state of more than 85 million people, which shares borders with nine neighboring countries and faces the challenge of diversifying its economy.

Malawi hosts African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Sensitization Workshops in Lilongwe and Blantyre

Lilongwe, Malawi, 16 September 2019 – The Ministry of Trade and Tourism in partnership with the Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Commission (AUC) are organizing an AfCFTA Awareness Workshop in Lilongwe and Blantyre on 17 September and 19 September, respectively. These workshops aim to engage relevant stakeholders on AfCFTA issues to secure a consensus for Malawi to ratify the AfCFTA Agreement. Each workshop is expected to bring together about 150 participants from private sectors, civil society organizations, parliamentarians, academia, and government.

AfCFTA Country Business Index developed to measure and monitor the implementation of the AfCFTA
