AfCFTA Trade in Services review for Central Africa (TBC)

The main objective of this regional workshop is to support and technically support the ECCAS Member States in the drafting of convergent regional specific lists of commitments, consistent with the regulatory frameworks, in the five priority sectors of services (financial services, transport, telecommunications / ICTs, professional services and tourism). The lists would be submitted to the AU by the start of 2020.

Zambia Finalizes the AFCFTA Strategy and Implementation Plan

Livingstone, Zambia, November 6, 2019 (ECA) –  Speaking during the closing session of the Experts Meeting to Finalize Zambia’s AfCFTA Strategy and Implementation Plan organized on 5th and 6th November 2019, Mr. Paul Mumba, Chief Economist,  Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry (MCTI), informed the meeting that the work on the AfCFTA, “does not end here, but starts now, he urged the participants to collectively own the strategy and share with their respective constituencies”.

Eritrea’s Saleh urges Africa to tap into her potential and capabilities to spur regional integration

Asmara, Eritrea, November 6, 2019 (ECA) – Africa has remarkable potential and capabilities to leverage on and expedite for regional integration, says Eritrea’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Osman Saleh.

In opening remarks to the 23rd Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of Senior Officials and Experts (ICSOE) for Eastern Africa Tuesday, Mr. Saleh said the Eastern Africa region had the same capabilities.

Effective AfCFTA implementation can create 2 million jobs for East Africa, says Songwe

Asmara, Eritrea, 5 November, 2019 (ECA) –The implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) could result in welfare gains amounting to USD 1.8 billion and create two million jobs for Eastern Africa, a region that requires an additional 8.5 million jobs for new job entrants annually, Economic Commission for Africa's (ECA) Executive Secretary, Vera Songwe, said Tuesday.

Enlarging group of AfCFTA State parties crucial ahead of operationalisation

Asmara, Eritrea, 5 November, 2019 (ECA) -With the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) set to officially start operating from July next year, there is need for concerted efforts to enlarge the group of State parties under the agreement in excess of the current 28 countries that have so far deposited instruments of ratification.

Experts Meet to Finalize AFCFTA Strategy and Implementation Plan

Livingstone, Zambia, November 5, 2019 (ECA) –  Government stands ready to finalize the Zambia’s Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) strategy and implementation plan.

Speaking at the experts meeting to finalize Zambia’s AfCFTA Strategy and Implementation Plan held in Livingstone, Chief Economist, Paul Mumba noted that Zambia is a state party to the agreement indicating the highest political will from the Government especially that the Framework Agreement was signed by His. Excellency, Mr. Edgar Changwa Lungu.
