Supporting policies and infrastructure crucial for effective implementation of AfCFTA

Lagos, Nigeria, December 5, 2019 (ECA) – For the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to have a positive influence on long-term investment in Africa’s productive capacities, there is need for the continent to develop appropriate supporting policies, build requisite infrastructure and ensure an educated work force.

This was said Monday by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Edward Kallon, during Nigeria’s AfCFTA Forum that is underway in Lagos under the theme; Effective Implementation for Industrialisation and Inclusive Development in Nigeria.

Nigeria determined to fully implement AfCFTA terms and commitments, Industry Minister

The accrual of maximum benefits from regional integration processes has traditionally depended on, among others, the ability of integrating entities and their constituents to take advantage of economies of scale and effectively participate in regional and global value chains. In the digital era, however, regional economic integration entails more than just physical connectivity. It now increasingly requires making strides towards digitization and embracing digital economies that are based on digital communication networks and information communication technologies.

ECCAS countries to prepare lists for continental trade in services under AfCFTA

Yaounde, 02 Dec.  2019 (ECA)The UN Economic Commission for Africa and the ECCAS General Secretariat have convened National experts from the eleven ECCAS Member States to a three-day regional workshop to prepare the subregion’s comprehensive lists of services to be tabled for unhampered trade  once borders open up under the African Continental Free trade Area regime by July 2020.

Cote d'Ivoire is moving towards the validation of its National Strategy to implement the AfCFTA

Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), December 2, 2019 – On December 4-5, in Abidjan, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the Government of Cote d‘Ivoire are organising a workshop to validate the National Strategy and set up the guidance mechanism of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for the country.

Enthusiasm for regional integration, as ECA and Trademark East Africa conduct national forum on the AfCFTA

Kampala, Uganda 21 November 2019 – The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Trademark East Africa (TMEA) launched the National impact assessment report that presented the effects of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on Uganda, during a national AfCFTA stakeholder consultation meeting on 31 October 2019.
