Upcoming ECA Study on African SIDS to Highlight Transformative Development Opportunities in the Face of Climate Change

Addis Ababa, 26 June 2013 (ECA) – The Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) will be held in Apia, Samoa, in 2014 to focus the world’s attention on a group of countries that remain a special case for sustainable development in view of their unique and particular vulnerabilities.

Climate Scientists prepare for report finish in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, 05 July 2013 (ECA) - 235 Authors and Review Editors of Working Group III’s contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report concluded their work on the final draft of the report, scheduled for completion in April 2014. During the five-day meeting, the participants discussed close to 20,000 comments from the expert and government review of the current draft and agreed on the way forward for the reports’ summary documents.

Climate Scientists gather for fourth meeting in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa,  01 July  2013 (ECA) - Scientists from around the world comprising the lead authors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group III have commenced their fourth meeting that takes place from1-5 June in Addis Ababa. The session opened with reminders of the magnitude of the challenge of climate change, particularly in Africa and a call to do more on resilient measures in the face of climate related disasters.

Partners stress unique nature of ClimDev, vow institutions will stay the course on climate change fight

Tunis, 07 March 2013 (ECA) - The 4th Session of the Steering Committee Meeting of the Climate for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa) Initiative opened in Tunis, Tunisia, on Wednesday, March 6 with a strong commitment from partners to do whatever it takes to ensure that the program contributes effectively towards the fight against climate change impacts on Africa.

African Climate Envoys and ACPC Agree Formula on Meeting Research, Negotiations, Communication Needs

Addis Ababa, 24 May 2013 (ECA) – The African Group of Negotiators on Climate Change (AGN) yesterday identified research, climate negotiations and communication as three key areas in which they will continue to seek support from the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) for the coming years.

The agreement came at the end of a 3-day workshop on the identification of needs of the AGN organized by ACPC on behalf the Climate for Development (ClimDev-Africa) partners from 21-23 May at the UN Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
