Africa Is Ready for Green Climate Fund

Marrakesh, 09 October 2014 (ECA) - Africa is fully prepared to receive funds to finance projects aimed at increasing climate resilience capacity on the conti-nent, an official from the Economic Commis-sion for Africa (ECA) has said.

Addressing journalists on Day One of CCDA-IV in Marrakech, Morocco, Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, the Deputy Executive Secretary of ECA, declared that Africa is indeed ready for the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

With SMART Agriculture, Africa can feed Africa

Marrakesh, 09 October 2014 (ECA) - The Fourth annual Conference on Cli-mate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-IV) opened here in Marrakech, Morocco yesterday with a strong focus on how the continent can feed itself.

Addressing the opening ceremony, the Direc-tor, Special Initiatives Division of the UN Eco-nomic Commission for Africa (ECA), Ms. Fatima Denton, told participants that to date agriculture
had not served as a transformational hub in fuelling economic growth and propelling industrialization.

ECA boss stresses Africa’s unique needs to face climate change challenges

Marrakesh, 09 October, 2014 (ECA) - The Deputy Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa, Dr. Abdalla Hamdok has told participants at the Fourth annual Conference on Climate and Development in Africa (CCDA-IV) that Africa’s needs are unique and the continent faces exceptional climate challenges. He explained that Africa faces unique challenges of poor physical infrastructure, poor agricultural productivity and poor market access, as well as weak institutions and policies - factors which perpetuate circles of poverty and misery.

Rescuing Africa’s Agriculture

Addis Ababa, 01 October 2014 (ECA) – Close to 500 policy makers, academics, practitioners and other stakeholders from the agriculture and climate change sectors will gather on 8 October in Marrakesh, Morocco, in a bid to come to the rescue of Africa’s agriculture which, instead of falling victim to climate change, should seize climate change opportunities for a more harmonious development of the continent.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 30 September 2014 - The 4th edition of the Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-IV) will be held in Marrakech, Morocco from October 8 to 10 on the theme: "Africa can feed Africa now: translating climate knowledge into action"

The overall objective of the conference is to provide a platform to discuss how Africa can draw on climate knowledge to transform agricultural production systems in order to ensure food self-sufficiency and improve the socio-economic well-being of its people in a sustainable manner.
