The Use of Geographic Information Systems in National Statistical Offices for Data Collection and Poverty Mapping

Poverty alleviation is at the forefront of the global development agenda. As a result, there has been an increase in the demand for quality statistics to evaluate and monitor progress towards internationally and national agreed development agendas such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Poverty Reduction Strategies (PRSs).

The Reference Regional Strategic Framework for Statistical Capacity Building in Africa

 

At the end of the 1990s, Africa’s leaders committed themselves to the continent’s renewal with the creation of the African Union and the adoption of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). Both initiatives were intended to address Africa’s development challenges; place African countries, both individually and collectively, on a path of sustainable growth and development; and extricate the continent from the malaise of underdevelopment and exclusion in a globalizing world.

Workshop for Statistics Users and Producers in Southern Africa

ECA Sub-regional Office for Southern Africa will organise a workshop for ‘Statistics Users and Producers inSouthern Africa in collaboration with the SADC Secretariat’s Statistics Division from 27 to 28 November 2014 in Gaborone, Botswana.  Senior officials from SADC member States, national statistics organisations (NSOs), Central Banks, Finance and Economic Planning Ministries are expected to attend the workshop.

Forum on African Statistical Development convenes ahead of main gathering of experts

Tunis, 08 December, 2014 (ECA) - The sixth Forum on African Statistical Development (FASDEV VI) opened in Tunisia Monday, as part of various preparatory events leading to this week’s meetings of the Statistical Commission for Africa (StatCom-Africa) and Committee of Directors General (CoDG) of National Statistical Offices, which will be held jointly for the first time from 10-12 December in the capital of Tunisia.

Africa's Statisticians to meet in Tunis on agriculture and Post-2015 Agenda

Addis Ababa, 3 Decembre 2014 (ECA) - The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with the Africa Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development bank (AfDB) will organize the inaugural meeting of the Joint Session of the Committee of Director Generals of the National Statistics Offices (CoDG) and the Statistical Commission for Africa (StatCom-Africa), from 8-12 December, 2014, in Tunis, Tunisia.
