UMA Partner Institutions Examine Support to North African Integration

Rabat, 1st June 2015 (ECA): The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) office for North Africa, and the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) will organize a North Africa Sub-Regional Coordination Mechanism meeting on 3-4 June 2015 in Rabat (Morocco).

Several international organizations, including AfDB, FAO, UNDP, ILO, UNIDO, IDB, UNESCO ISESCO, ICDT and IOM will take part in this event. Participants will take stock of actions undertaken since the Mechanism was set up in 2014, identify projects for the 2015-2016 period and consider options to strengthen it further.

In Casablanca, ECA’s 2015 report to feature in panel discussion

Casablanca / Addis Ababa, 22 May 2015 - The Economic Commission for Africa will hold a panel discussion on the current edition of the Economic Report on Africa (ERA) 2015, launched in March this year on the theme, Industrializing through trade. The session will take place during the Global Development Network’s Annual Conference, to be held in Casablanca, Morocco, 11-13 June 2015.

Morocco: Expatriates a catalyst for economic development

Rabat, 15 May 2015 (ECA) - In partnership with the Ministry in Charge of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs as well as the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), the  Sub-regional Office for North Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is organizing an expert group meeting on Capacity building to optimize the impact of remittances on development in North Africa. International transport and trade facilitation in North Africa

The general objective of the meeting is to help speed up the regional integration process in its dimension of ‘the development of intra North African trade’. Ad Hoc Expert Group Meeting on the theme: The Role of the Industrial Sector in the Development of Green Economy in North Africa

The meeting mainly aims to take stock of the progress made in terms of the vision and national policies on green economy in North Africa, on the one hand, and to analyze perceptions, practices and business expectations relating to green economy, on the specific objectives of the meeting are to:

• Raise awareness and enhance understanding of green economy issues and benefits;

• Share knowledge on policies and ongoing initiatives in the region, and promote dialogue between the public actors, private operators and development partners;
