About the Forum

In 2015, Africa made a significant leap towards integration following the launch of the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) negotiations at the 25th African Union Summit (Johannesburg, June 2015). The CFTA is seen as an important step towards the set up of a 1 billion consumer African common market, an African Economic Community, and a strategic foundation for Africa’s effective integration into the global economy.

Green Economy – Finding Innovative Waste Management technologies for North Africa

Casablanca, 28 September 2015: The Economic Commission for Africa (Office for North Africa) and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) are organizing, in partnership with the Moroccan Cleaner Production Center (CMPP) a regional workshop on Innovative Technologies for Waste Management in the Arab Region under the theme “Paving the way for the transition to a green economy in Casablanca (Morocco) on 29-30 September 2015.

Carlos Lopes takes part in Arab League Economic and Social Council meeting

Cairo, 2 September 2015 (ECA) - Africa and the Arab world have been deeply related since ancient times. Strengthening our partnerships can help us overcome common economic and social challenges and pave the way towards structural transformation and shared prosperity”. The statement has been made by Mr. Carlos Lopes ahead of the 96th ministerial meeting of the League of Arab States’ Economic and Social Council that is due to take place on 3 September 2015 in Cairo (Egypt).

ERA 2015 report presented in Cairo

September 1st, 2015 (ECA): UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the  Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) will hold a dissemination seminar on the 2015 edition of the Economic Report on Africa in Cairo (Egypt) on 3 September 2015, on the margins of the 96th Meeting of the League of Arab States’ Economic and Social Council.

Report on the sustainable development goals for the North Africa subregion

At a time when the international community is assessing the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, evaluating the progress made towards the achievement of sustainable development and identifying the shortcomings that need to be addressed in order to effectively tackle emerging challenges, North Africa must not only make its own contribution but also join the international process by participating actively in the development of a new world vision.

International Organizations build partnership for North Africa’s integration

Rabat, 8 June 2015 (ECA) -  From 3 to 4 June 2015, the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA), ECA, ADB, FAO, IDB, UNESCO, ISESCO, WHO, IOM and ILO took part in the annual North Africa Sub-Regional Coordination Mechanism (SRCM-NA), in Rabat (Morocco).

« This meeting was the first of our partnership’s annual evaluations. It allowed us to make sure our work responds to regional challenges, and check our alignment with the medium-term priorities of UMA and its member countries », explained Mrs Karima Bounemra Ben Soltane, Director of the ECA office for North Africa.
