Industrialization still a key priority for East Africa

Kigali 19 June 2019 (ECA) - At a time when the global trade is characterized by much uncertainty and when the rest of the world is becoming increasingly inward-looking, it's good that Africa unites and leverages the plentiful opportunities available within the continent, said Andrew Mold, the Acting Director of UN Economic Commission for Africa in Eastern Africa. 

He was speaking at the Eisenhower Fellowships Africa Regional Conference held in Kigali on 14-15 June 2019.

ECA’s Executive Secretary calls for stronger multilateralism to achieve SDGs.

Kigali, 17 June 2019, Press release (ECA) -The Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa, Ms. Vera Songwe, has pleaded for stronger multilateralism and a sense of global community and global justice if we are to achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Songwe made the plea during the recent conference in Kigali on "SDGs Implementation in Africa:  Reflections on a Three-Year Journey"

The East African Private sector discusses their contribution to the AfCFTA in Arusha

Arusha, 25 April 2019-(ECA) – The African Continental Free Trade Area isn't simply a 'Free Trade Agreement' it's about establishing a unified continental market with 1.2 billion potential customers and where the private sector is a major engine to make it happen.

This was the tone from the discussions of the meeting held on Thursday in Arusha about how the East African Private sector and the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) could benefit from the AfCFTA.

ECA discusses with Journalists the enormous potential offered by the AfCFTA

Monrovia, Liberia, 21 February (ECA) - The success of the African Continental Free Trade area will depend on a range of policies to address trade, investment and industrialization barriers and the media will play a vital role to make it happen. 

It is in this context that UN Economic Commission for Africa organized a three-day meeting with the Network of Economic Journalists for West Africa to make a case for AfCFTA and discuss with journalists a wide range of socio-economic development benefits deriving from its implementation.

Development of the Energy Balance Statistics and Energy Systems Model for the Union of Comoros

This report is developed as part of an advisory service request made to UNECA by the Government of the Union of Comoros. The request was for the development of national energy balance statistics to bridge gaps in the energy information system, as well as for the development of a national energy systems model to support energy sector planning, the analysis of the National Energy Strategy and the delivery of capacity development in energy planning.
