Using data from the United nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), this study has established that Eastern Africa, as one of the five UNECA African regions, is ranked only ahead of the Central Africa region in terms of total capital investments in the tourism sector for the period 2010 to 2017, behind North Africa, Southern Africa, and West Africa.

According to ICT experts, this crisis heightened the need for African countries to increase their investments in ICT infrastructure, policies and solutions and to accelerate their efforts in tapping into the new possibilities unlocked by digitalization.
Niamey (Niger), April 24, 2020 – As part of the framework of the implementation of the United Nations Legal Identity Agenda (UNLIA / IJNU), an exploratory mission was carried out in Niger, from March 9 to 13, 2020.
This mission, led by a team of experts from the African Centre for Statistics and the ECA Sub-Regional Office for West Africa, included meetings with the Government of Niger, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and other agencies of the United Nations System and development partners.
Nairobi, 6 March 2010 (ECA)- The implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Eastern Africa could result in welfare gains amounting to USD 1.8 billion for East Africa, boosting intra-African exports by more than USD 1.1 billion and creating more than 2 million new jobs, says a new report.
This report posits that, despite remaining the fastest growing region in Africa, the pace of economic transformation in Eastern Africa is currently too slow to ensure the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The region’s economies would benefit from deeper regional integration, particularly through the rapid implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA). Eastern Africa continues to register social progress, but major challenges remain, in terms of tackling poverty, job creation, and undernourishment.
Nairobi, 31 January 2020 (ECA) - Experts attending the technical review of the draft Kenya AfCFTA implementation strategy held lively discussions about how the country could best benefit from the agreement.
The two day-meeting was jointly organized in Nairobi by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Kenya State Department for Trade.
It was attended by 60 experts, including government officials, trade economists, university lecturers, development partners and youth and women’s representatives.

Organised by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Trademark East Africa (TMEA), the Tanzanian edition of the AfCFTA forum was held in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday 22 Oct 2019 and was attended by policymakers, private sector and the civil society representatives.
