Enthusiasm for regional integration, as ECA and Trademark East Africa conduct national forum on the AfCFTA

Kampala, Uganda 21 November 2019 – The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Trademark East Africa (TMEA) launched the National impact assessment report that presented the effects of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on Uganda, during a national AfCFTA stakeholder consultation meeting on 31 October 2019.

Benefits of regional integration reaffirmed in Asmara communiqué

7 November 2019 (ECA) - Regional integration represents a unique opportunity for East African countries to strengthen their economies, affirmed delegates concluding the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) meeting which ended in Asmara on Thursday.

Representatives of governments, private sector, regional economic communities and civil society from 14 Eastern African countries adopted unanimously the Asmare communiqué at the end of the three-day regional meeting which was taking place for the first time in Eritrea.

Tourism Touted as a Priority Sector for East African Transformation

According to Geoffrey Manyara, the ECA Economic Affairs Officer, capitalizing on tourism potential will significantly accelerate Economic Development in the region.

East Africa needs a better quality of economic growth to tackle the job challenge

Asmara, Eritrea, 6 November 2019 (ECA) - With a rapidly growing population, East Africa is facing a pressing employment challenge, and the current economic growth, albeit impressive, is not enabling the creation of enough decent jobs to tackle this challenge. Policy reforms are needed to ensure the growth creates more jobs and reduces poverty.
