Policy convergence can catalyse Central Africa’s transport interconnection

Brazzaville, 15 Dec. 2016 (ECA) – Central Africa’s transport interconnection problems are not a result of lack of expertise across countries but rather a manifestation of difficulties with inter-state coordination. And this considerably slows down efforts within the sub-region to achieve structural transformation – a process that cannot occur without fluidity in the movements of people and goods.

Mining and development in Central Africa: much still to be done

Brazzaville, 14 Dec. 2016 (ECA) – In spite of the efforts deployed by countries in Central Africa to incorporate the objectives of the African Mining Vision (AMV) into national policies and legislative frameworks, the results are still limited and do not yet permit the mining industry to drive inclusive growth and sustainable development. Such is the conclusion contained in an ECA report on “the state of progress and next steps in the implementation of the African Mining Vision in Central Africa”.

ECA and ECCAS deepen collaboration

Central Africa’s industrial transformation need not be cut-and-paste

Time to converge international development agendas in Central Africa

Libreville, 7 December 2016 (ECA) – A plethora of regional development bodies in Central Africa under the umbrella of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Central Africa Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) have indicated their appetite for internalising and aggregating Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) to better respond to the needs of the sub-region.

Cyber security: Central African States adopt model cross-border laws

Brazzaville, Dec 6, 2016 (ECA) – An exacting endeavour of the Central African Economic Community (ECCAS) member states - supported by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) – has yielded fruits with the adoption by countries of the sub-region of model laws on telecommunications, cyber security and the regulatory framework to govern cross-border interconnection.
