Conclave to revitalise UN support to AU/NEPAD programme in Central Africa

Yaounde, Cameroon, 10 November 2017 (ECA) – Agencies of the UN System, the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) of Central Africa and their development partners such as the African Development bank (AfDB) will concert from 21 to 22 November 2017 in Yaoundé – Cameroon, within the framework of the eighth session of the Sub-regional Coordination Mechanism (SRCM) of the UN System-wide support to the AU’s NEPAD programme in the sub region.

In Central Africa, the Central African Republic (CAR) is facing a series of socio-economic and political crises, becoming a real challenge to the International Community in its effort to consolidate peace in the sub region.  Peace, security, and stability in the Central African Republic are fundamental impulses of a socio- economic development at a time when countries of the region have to deal with the falling prices of raw materials.

In Cameroon, ECA’s Pedro confers with agriculture minister on the ‘Douala Consensus’

Yaoundé, 8 November 2017 (ECA) - The director of the Economic Commission for Africa’s Subregional Office for Central Africa (ECA/SRO-CA), Antonio Pedro, met with Cameroon’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, on Tuesday November 7 to discuss the operationalization of the Douala Consensus, which was adopted during the 33th meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts for Central Africa (ICE2017) in Douala.

Giovanie Biha flaunts ‘Made in Central Africa’ products at dinner debate

Douala, 2 October 2017 (ECA) - Deputy Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Giovanie Biha, got a big round of applause during a dinner debate in Douala after she displayed items produced by local Cameroonian women entrepreneurs.

“I want you all to see these fine oils, handbags and natural herbal products made in Cameroon,” said Ms. Biha. “These are organic products and of superior quality, I can assure you. I encourage you all to buy some before leaving Douala. We are talking about promoting local products and must, therefore, lead by example.”

Consensus reached on actions for sustainable industrialization in Central Africa

Douala, 2 October 2017 (ECA) - The 33rd meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts for Central Africa (ICE2017) has ended in Douala with calls for the adoption of well-targeted and sequenced counter-cyclical measures as a means to promoting resources-driven and trade-induced Industrialisation in Central Africa.
