A high-level panel to promote the implementation of the AfCFTA in Niger

Niamey (Niger), October 27, 2020 – On the initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), through its Sub-Regional Office for West Africa (SRO-WA), in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and the Promotion of the Private Sector and the Organisation of Industrial Professionals in Niger (OPIN), a high-level panel was organised Thursday, October 22, 2020 on the theme "Boost local production: promote the ‘Made in Niger’ label within the framework of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) ”.

Burkina Faso’s AfCFTA national strategy implementation meeting holds next week

Addis Ababa, 22 October, 2020 (ECA) – Government officials and experts in Burkina Faso are meeting next weekto develop the country’s strategy for the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement (AfCFTA) ahead of its commencement next year.

The two-day meeting in Ouagadougou from 26 Oct. to 27 Oct. is being organized by the country’s trade and industry ministry in collaboration with international partners including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the International Trade Center and the African Union Commission.

2020 Second quarter accountability and programme performance review: Good performance for SRO-WA despite the particular COVID19 pandemic situation

Niamey (Niger), July 23, 2020 (ECA) – The 2020 Second quarter accountability and programme performance review meeting of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) took place virtually on 21, 21 and 23 July 2020.

This meeting whose theme is “Programme delivery in uncertain times (COVID-19 pandemic)” aims to provide the opportunity to enhance result-based planning, monitoring and reporting and to foster the culture of accountability and transparency.

The ECA in West Africa takes stock of the recommendations of its 22nd ICE and prepares for the 23rd session

Niamey (Niger), July 7, 2020 –   The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), through its Sub-Regional Office for West Africa, organized a virtual meeting on Monday with the Bureau of the Twenty-Second Session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts and Senior Officers (ICE) for West Africa.

This meeting, which is part of the sustained commitment of the ECA Office in West Africa to the Member States, was intended to update and seek advice from the Bureau in the implementation of the 22nd ICE recommendations including the preparation of the 23rd Session.

ECA and its partners proceed with the technical validation of the interim report of the study on the establishment of an autonomous financing mechanism for the LGA

Niamey (Niger), June 29, 2020 – Experts from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Sub-Regional Office for West Africa, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Liptako Gourma Integrated Development Authority (LGA) met from June 24 to 25 to proceed with the technical validation of the interim report of the study on the establishment of a financing mechanism for the LGA to mobilise its own resources.

ECA supports ECOWAS 2020 vision independent and final evaluation
