ECA’s 52nd session opens with calls for investments and productivity to African leaders

Marrakech / Addis Ababa 25 March 2019 (ECA) – With a collective resolve, “Africa can raise the U$680 billion a year needed to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a decade,” Vera Songwe – Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa, told African ministers and hundreds of delegates attending the Commission’s 52nd Session, Monday, in Morocco’s historic city – Marrakech.

ECA calls for better coordination of maritime strategies to achieve blue economy in Africa

 

Marrakech, 24 March 2019 (ECA) – A panel of senior African officials and blue economy experts taking part in the 8th North Africa Development Forum (NADF) held on Saturday 23 March, called upon ECA to help step up coordination between major African ports, with a view to enhancing their competitiveness.

On the eve of African Free Trade Agreement (AfCTA) ratification, this move will help contribute to the creation of a virtuous circle between maritime connectivity and intra-African trade.

African countries can do better with improved fiscal policy, says Songwe

Rabat, 18 March 2018 (CEA) - The Economic Commission for Africa and the Ministry of economy and finance of Morocco held a joint press briefing on the conference on 18 March at the Ministry's headquarters, two days before the start of the 52nd Session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (COM2019).

Running from March 20-26 in Marrakech, this ministerial conference of continental scope this year will have for theme, "Fiscal policy, trade and private sector in the digital era: a strategy for Africa".
