Marrakech, 12 March 2019 (ECA) – As globalization, technological breakthroughs, demography and climate change are deeply transforming the global job market, is Africa able to provide a workforce that matches the needs of tomorrow?
With about 60% of its population under 25 and the annual arrival of 10 to 15 million youths on its job markets, Africa needs to carry out an urgent reorganization of its education and training systems.
In response to this challenge, the Economic Commission for Africa is organizing, in partnership with the High Commission for Planningof Morocco and the Policy Center for the New South a debate under the theme: “Planning for Tomorrow's Workforce: Is Africa Ready?”, Sunday 24 March in Marrakech (Morocco), on the margins of ECA’s 52nd Session and Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (COM2019).
This event will provide participants with a platform for critical thinking on the relevance of African education and training systems as well as Africa’s perspectives and opportunities in an evolving, digital and knowledge-based economy.
This event will be held by the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) with support from the ECA Office for North Africa and with the participation of representatives of governments, worker and employer associations, international organisations and civil society, researchers, and COM2019 participants involved in employment planning.
