Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda are in the process of formulating their own broad tourism plans in an effort to implement the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development’s Sustainable Tourism Master Plan. Rwanda, which is not a member of the IGAD, is also keen to come up with a tourism blueprint alongside the regional block’s plan.

ECA welcomes the rebasing of the Kenyan economy

Kigali, 10 October 2014 (ECA) - In the wake of the recent rebasing of estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) by Ghana and Nigeria, Kenya is now the latest African country to rebase its national accounts data.

 Although not on the same scale as the adjustment made in the Nigerian gross domestic product (which resulted in an approximate doubling in the size of its economy), the increase is nonetheless still highly significant - a 25.3 percent increase in its GDP, according to the Kenyan Planning Minister Anne Waiguru.

Award ceremony for Regional Integration competition among schools of Rwanda

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is supporting the Rwandan Ministry of East African Community to conduct debate competitions in secondary schools so as to reinforce awareness of  Regional integration among students across the country.Debating clubs were formed in 60 secondary schools to participate in competitions at district, provincial and national levels. ECA kicks off Discussions on investing in National Champions in Eastern Africa

Eastern Africa takes new step to enhance regional food and nutrition security

Addis Ababa, 01 August 2013 (ECA) – All the regional economic communities and intergovernmental organizations in Eastern Africa have launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing cooperation in the area of food and nutrition security. The Programme on Food Security for Eastern Africa emerged on July 4 after a three-day meeting in Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian capital.

Deepening Innovation in Rwanda

Kigali, 19 April 2013 (ECA) –  The Rwanda Innovation Endowment Fund (RIEF) will soon award 10 best young entrepreneurs with locally applicable innovative projects that spur socio-economic transformation of the country.

Rwandan Prime Minister, Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, is expected to preside over the function of awarding the successful applicants in a function to be held on 2 May 2013 in the Kigali Health Institute.
