Fighting corruption in the land sector must be underpinned by effective land governance

Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, November 25, 2019 (ECA) - The 2019 Conference on Land Policy in Africa opened Monday, with resounding calls for effective land governance as critical to fighting corruption achieving Africa’s continental vision elaborated in Agenda 2063. The theme of the third biannual conference has as its central focus, “Winning the fight against Corruption in the Land Sector: Sustainable Pathway for Africa’s Transformation”.

Africa Urged to enhance Capacity Building in the Land Sector

Cape Town, South Africa, October 6, 2019 (University of Western Cape) – The training helped practitioners to realise that the current set-up of wealthy landowners and poor people on the land is not actually a ‘normal’ arrangement and reflect on the tools that are needed to enable us to imagine a new dispensation around land. The training allowed us to question assumptions. When, as a government, you look at investors from other countries coming in for land deals, you don’t tend to look at the costs in terms of identity, culture and the actual meaning of the land for the community.

Land policy in Africa conference to focus on fighting corruption

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, October 31, 2019 (ECA) – Preparations are underway for third edition of the Conference on Land Policy in Africa (CLPA-2019) which will convene under the theme, ‘Winning the Fight against Corruption in the Land Sector: Sustainable Pathway for Africa’s Transformation’.

The conference, scheduled for November in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, is a policy and learning event whose goal is to deepen capacity for land policy in Africa through improved access to knowledge and information on land policy development and implementation.
