Les technologies numériques ont le potentiel de transformer nos systèmes de santé et d’éducation débordés, et de poser les bases de la réussite économique. Mais, trop souvent, l’enthousiasme suscité par une nouvelle application ingénieuse, pour la salle de classe ou la clinique, occulte le fait que la technologie à elle seule n’est pas la panacée.

So, when world leaders met virtually as the G20 on Thursday to plan humanity’s global-scale Covid-19 fightback, it was in everyone's collective interest that Africa sat centrally within that strategy – central to the global health response, as well as the economic and jobs response.

Economic conditions in a number of African countries are worsening by the day. Lockdowns and a plummet in global commodity prices brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic have led to severe economic repercussions across the continent.

At the same time, Africa’s estimated $400 billion of debt is weighing on policymakers’ ability to devote more resources to combat the worsening public health crisis in their countries.
