Forum on China-Africa Cooperation charts 3-year cooperation plan

The 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held on 3 and 4 September 2018 under the theme “China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with Shared Future through Win-Win Cooperation”. The summit was attended by the Heads of State, Government and Delegations of the People’s Republic of China and 53 African countries, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, United Nations Secretary-General and the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa.

Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa 2016-2025

African economies have been resilient and gaining momentum. Real output growth is estimated to have increased by 3.6 per cent in 2017 and is poised to accelerate to 4.1 per cent in 2018 and 2019. Overall, the recovery of growth has been faster than envisaged, especially among non-resource-intensive economies. African governments are more than ever determined to accelerate the gains that have been achieved through the implementation of targeted initiatives.

According to WHO, the African region has 2 per cent of the world’s registered vehicles but a disproportionate 16 per cent of the world’s road traffic deaths. Former Secretary-General and global icon, Kofi Annan passes at 80

The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa Vera Songwe has joined the UN family in mourning the passing  today, of former Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

“It is with the deepest regret that I learned about the passing of Kofi Annan. His tireless work and devotion to Africa up to the very last day, as he continued to advocate for peace in Zimbabwe is exactly what leadership should look like on our continent,” she said.
