At Adebayo Adedeji symposium, Namibian President lauds AfCFTA and AU reforms

Lagos, Nigeria, July 7, 2018 (ECA) – Namibian President Hage Geingob on Saturday paid tribute to the late former Economic Commission for Africa Executive Secretary, Professor Adebayo Adedeji, by lauding the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and on-going African Union reforms.

Prof. Adedeji is known as the leading proponent of regional integration in Africa, a dream Mr. Geingob said was now coming to fruition with the signing of the continental free trade agreement by over 48 countries now.

African Women Leadership Fund to bolster women-owned businesses

Nouakchott, 30 June 2018 (ECA) - ECA’s Executive Secretary, Vera Songwe announced that plans are underway to set up the African Women Leadership Fund to help speed up the growth of women-led businesses around the Continent.

Speaking in Nouakchott at a joint AU-EU High Level side event titled, “Women in Power”, Ms, Songwe said, “Depending on the resources we raise, and with our target being five hundred million dollars, we will create a network of young women fund managers, train them for two years and put them out in the market.”

Nouakchott, 28 June 2018 (ECA) – In a speech to the 31st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), ECA’s Executive Secretary Vera Songwe warned today in Nouakchott (Mauritania) against the impact of corruption on Africa’s development.
