Carlos Lopes cautions African countries to be vigilant at Paris climate negotiations

Paris, France, 8 December 2015 (ClimDev-Africa) - The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, Mr. Carlos Lopes, today warned that the outcome of the current Paris COP negotiation cpould potentially be problematic for Africa if it is not based on the principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capacities, and the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) do not fully recognize historical emissions.

African leaders must work engage private sector for climate financing

Paris, France, December 7, 2015 (ClimDev-Africa) - More than ever, Africa needs to mobilize its investments, to stimulate sustainable development on the continent to increase its resilience. According to Andrew Norton, Director of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), Africa needs to rely on the private sector to engage the continent on a path of sustainable, low carbon emissions.

Applause for ACPC findings on Africa’s role in climate negotiations

Paris, France, 2 December 2015 (ECA) - Key findings on Africa’s role in the global climate negotiations were greeted with cheers in the Africa Pavilion at the Paris climate talks yesterday as Mr. Carlos Lopes the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), released the document. 

The event was one of a dozen activities held after the opening ceremony of the Africa  Day  events in the Africa Pavilion in Hall 3 Stand 19 in the Blue Zone of the UNFCCC COP 21 venue at Le Bourget.

The Africa Pavilion at COP21 officially opens on a high note

Paris, France, 1 December 2015 (Joint ECA,AUC,AfDB Press Release) - Africa today sent an unequivocal message of solidarity and unity of purpose at the official opening of the Africa Pavilion at the UNFCCC COP 21 in Paris. Speaking at the high level opening, President Yayi Boni of Benin, was resolute that the Africa is not at the negotiating table with a begging bowl.
