Experts welcome ECA country profiles, call for in-depth analysis

Lusaka, Zambia, 5th October 2016/ECA - Experts welcome ECA’s initiative to publish annual country and regional profiles with quarterly updates. Representing national statistical offices, central banks, regional economic communities and other stakeholders, the experts commended ECA’s Country Profile initiative, and called for deeper analysis on social statistics.

SADC Heads of State and Government Summit

The 36th SADC Heads of States and Government Summit will take place in Mbabane, Swaziland from 30 -31 August 2016 under the chairmanship of the incoming chairperson of SADC, His Majesty King Mswati III of Swaziland. The approved general theme of the summit is "Resource Mobilization for Investment in Sustainable Energy Infrastructure for an Inclusive SADC Industrialization for the Prosperity".

Inaugural meeting of the Consortium to Stem Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) from Africa

The inaugural meeting of the Consortium to Stem Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) from Africa will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 13 to 14 June 2016. The meeting is convened by the Secretariat of the High Level Panel on IFFs and will be chaired by Mr. Thabo Mbeki, Former President of the Republic of South Africa and Chair of the AU/ECA High Level Panel.

Africa must turn the current energy challenge into an opportunity

Lilongwe, Malawi, 14 March 2016 (ECA) – Speaking at the official opening of the Ad hoc Group Meeting (AEGM) on the Energy Crisis in Southern Africa: Perspectives for the future, Southern Africa Regional Director, Said Adejumobi said that Africa can leap-frog its energy production by benefiting from the progress in science and technology, in moving to climate friendly energy production systems, which are less expensive and more durable.
