Elaboration/formulation of Cameroon’s national AfCFTA implementation strategy

Determined to strengthen its cooperation with member states to support the process of continental integration, ECA is undertaking a three-month exercise with the Government of and other stakeholders in Cameroon, to formulate a national strategy for the leveraging the African Continental Free trade Area (AfCFTA)

The AfCFTA represents a potential market of 1.2 billion consumers today, and nearly 2.5 billion in 2050, and is a powerful lever to stimulate exports, industrialization, job creation and economic diversification of the African continent.

Training on procedures of accreditation to the harmonized ECCAS/CEMAC Preferential Tariff

Upon request of the Secretary General of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) the Sub-regional Office for Central Africa of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is organizing a series of trainings on the procedures of accreditation to the harmonized ECCAS/CEMAC Preferential Tariff across the subregion. 

This is one of several activities to implement the program of a European Union trust fund, project-managed by ECA’s Central Africa Office, for the harmonization of ECCAS-CEMAC trade policy instruments.

Congo gears towards continental trade strategy

Capitalize on Blue Economy to cash in on Africa’s Free Trade Area – government of Sao Tome advised

Vera Songwe urges Cameroon to lead Central Africa into continental free trade and digital economy

Yaounde, 22 April 2019 (ECA) – Much to an ecstatic applause from the academic community and members of the Government of Cameroon, the Execrative Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) – Ms. Vera Songwe, made a strong case for the country to ratify and take leadership in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement while toning up its digital economy, as she ended her first official visit there recently.

Vera Songwe visits Rabat following tragic loss of two ECA staff members

Rabat, 20 April 2019 (ECA) - ECA Executive Secretary Vera Songwe visited mourning families and staff in Rabat (Morocco) Friday 19 April, in support to them, following a tragic car accident in which two staff members of ECA office for North Africa lost their lives.

Hind Jabir (31) and Samira Ezzine (54) have worked for ECA for several years. They are warmly remembered by UN colleagues and ECA partners for their generosity, dynamism and devotion.
