Member States urged to explore non-traditional sources of financing in Central Africa

N’Djamena, 20 September 2018 (ECA www.uneca.org/sro-ca) - “Financing industrialization is not only about chasing money,” said Antonio Pedro, Director of the ECA Subregional Office for Central Africa.

“We need to look at the soft and hard infrastructure that will then create the necessary enablers for money to flow,” he stated in N’Djamena on 19 September during a roundtable titled ‘Towards Resource-based Industrialization and Economic Diversification in Central Africa.'

N’Djamena, 19 September 2018 (ECA www.uneca.org/sro-ca) – Low tax burdens, prohibitive conditions for access to loans, weak national saving ratios, unsustainable public debt, narrow funding funnels, negative policy perception indexes and tough operating environments are limiting the cash-flow needed to sustainably fund industrial projects in Central Africa, experts of the subregion have warned.

Financing industrialization in central Africa: actors call for better enabling environment and innovative approaches

Yaounde, 17 September 2018 (ECA www.uneca.org/sro-ca) – In a recent webinar on financing industrialization in Central Africa organized by the Subregional Office for Central Africa of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), leaders of the private sector called on State authorities to lay emphasis on improving the enabling environment for investment in order for industrialization to thrive in the sub-region.

ECA-COFACE Country Risk Colloquium

In Africa, the stakes and challenges of industrialization are numerous. Faced with enormous challenges in financing industrialization projects, governments and economic stakeholders in the countries of the subregion have an interest in turning to innovative sources and practices in this area. Experts from Coface and ECA, as well as high-level guests will grace the colloquium to put forth their understanding on this subject during this conference.

ECA to cohost country-risk conference on industrialization in Central Africa

Douala, 12 September 2018 (ECA www.uneca.org/sro-ca) – The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is partnering with COFACE, to organize the first country-risk colloquium in Central Africa on 13 September 2018 in Douala, economic capital of Cameroon on the theme: Stakes and Challenges of Industrialization in Central Africa. The Country Risk colloquium is an ideal platform for experts and policy makers to take stock of country and sector risks to help public and private sector leaders make policy decisions on development and investment.

Experts to weave strategy for financing industrialization in Central Africa

Yaounde, 09 September 2018 (ECA - www.uneca.org/sro-ca) – The UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Government of Chad are convening government representatives and experts in various development fields from across Central Africa and around the world, to debate and propose a harmonized strategy of unlocking finances for industrializing the economies of Central Africa.
